Good news! Break up of National Union of Students continues

Following the controversial election of Malia Bouattia as its president, the break up of the National Union of Students continues apace.

The vote by students at the University of Lincoln to disaffiliate themselves from the NUS has now been matched by Newcastle University Students’ Union also deciding to disaffiliate. A referendum on membership was held today, with 989 students voting to leave; 486 to remain.

We suggested following Bouattia’s election that disaffiliation was the only viable option left for those disillusioned by the continued direction of the NUS and it would appear that others, including Oxford, Cambridge, Durham and York could be set to follow Lincoln and Newcastle.
