Venue swap doesn’t stop Naz Shah from speaking and apologising

The UK Labour Party’s Naz Shah, currently suspended from the party amid allegations of anti-Semitism, managed to meet and speak with local Jewish community members from Leeds and Bradford, despite an enforced change of venue. The event on Sunday evening – initiated by the Leeds Jewish Representative Council – was moved from the Orthodox Beit Hamidrash Hagadol to the Reform Sinai Synagogue following complaints about the gathering.

Shah admitted she was “ignorant about Judaism” when she made the anti-Semitic comments leading to her suspension. “It is my job in the Muslim Community to highlight the issues of anti-Semitism.”

“Going to Auschwitz is a fantastic idea but it won’t fix the problem. We need to educate the community.”

“It’s up to me to own the narrative,” she continued. “To have conversations with the Muslim community [about anti-Semitism] and that’s my responsibility.”

Shah explained that she came to this realisation after she was asked to apologize to the House of Commons and to the British Jewish community, something she described as a, “Politicians apology.”

“I looked at myself and asked whether I had prejudice against Jewish people. But I realised I was ignorant and I want to learn about the Jewish faith and culture. I do not have hatred for Jewish people.”

Despite her actions which led to her suspension, Shah insisted that she believes in Israel’s rights to exist and to self-defense, and that – contrary to former Bradford politician and rival George Galloway – she does not believe in Bradford being an ‘Israel-free zone.’

French politician probed for ‘no dogs and Jews allowed’ Twitter account

City prosecutors in southern France are investigating a local politician for his Twitter account, which was marked “forbidden to dogs and Jews” and featured tweets mocking and denying the Holocaust.

The Montpelier prosecutors were notified Monday by municipal officials about the account, which belongs to Djamel Boumaaz, a former member of France’s far-right National Front party, the Liberation daily reported.

Djamel BoumaazBoumaaz, a Muslim who quit the party last year over what he termed anti-Muslim sentiments by party leader Marine Le Pen, said someone had hacked his account and posted the tweets, the news site Infos H24 reported.

According to Liberation, the profile of the account, which was shut down Monday, read: “Forbidden to dogs and to Jews.”

A tweet posted Sunday featured a black-and-white picture of corpses along with the text: “OK, let’s make up besides I have a heap of Jewish friends.”

Another tweet read: “My son has nightmares from your Holocaust. I told him not to be afraid of imaginary things.”

A known associate of Holocaust denier Alain Soral and anti-Semitic comedian Dieudonne M’bala M’bala, Boumaaz was second on the National Front list for the municipal elections in Montpelier in 2014.

Gilles Clavreul, France’s inter-ministerial delegate for the fight against racism and anti-Semitism, tweeted that he contacted Twitter’s French office demanding the closure of Boumaaz’s account for hate speech, which is illegal in France.

Labour council’s obsession with BDS proven as meaningless

If ever proof were needed of just how meaningless the BDS movement is, Leicester City Council’s controversial decision to boycott goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank has had “no impact” on the things it has bought, officials have revealed.

Yet the council has already had to pay out £7,355 plus VAT on legal counsel connected to the boycott – and could face paying £200,000 costs if it loses a judicial review case on the ban at the High Court next month.

The Labour-led authority approved the motion in 2014 to “show solidarity” with the Palestinian people.

However, critics described the move as anti-Semitic – a charge denied by the council – and gesture politics to appeal to Muslim voters ahead of last year’s election.

Tory city councillor Ross Grant said: “It’s disgraceful. This just shows the Labour group are guilty of dog whistle politics of the worst kind. This motion has had no effect at all and was just to win votes from a certain section of the community.images-4

“Now £200,000 of taxpayers’ money has been put at risk because of the actions of a bunch of people who are always telling us how little cash they have.

“The city mayor ought to show some leadership and rescind this motion to protect public money.

“At the last council meeting I asked the lord mayor to allow a motion to vote on rescinding this. We could have already had a vote but he would not allow it.”

The issue is set to be settled in the High Court after an application by campaign group Jewish Human Rights Watch (JHRW) for a judicial review of the boycott.

Council barrister Kamal Adatia has warned councillors losing the case could cost the authority £200,000.

A Freedom of Information request has revealed the legal costs associated with the motion. The response said the council had paid £7,355 plus VAT on counsel but that the cost of in-house legal work had not been calculated.

The request also asked if the policy had led to a change in any supplier of goods to the council.

The response said: “The council’s procurement activity has not been impacted by the motion.”

UK police commissioner candidate labelled ‘unfit for office’ over social media posts

ONE of the candidates bidding to become West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner has been labelled “unfit for office” after sharing conspiracy theories about Israel, terrorism and police corruption.

Independent candidate Andy Flynn, is one of four men battling to become the region’s police commissioner in the May 5 elections.

His rivals say they have been stunned by his posts on Israel and Muslims, and his view that the police force is riddled with corruption and packed with “self-serving freemasons”.

On his Facebook page, he has also shared images from others of German chancellor Angela Merkel dressed in a Nazi-style uniform.

In one post, he claims the Islamic terrorist attacks, such those in Paris and Brussels, are in fact organised by Israel.

He states: “Israel is the sworn enemy of Islam, yet there are no ISIS attacks on Israel, and Israel has a history of staging terrorist attacks to incite hatred between Christians and Muslims.”

He also asks: “Was Marxism invented by a Jew to destroy Western society?”

Another post he shared stated: “Boycott Moslem (sic) take aways. You don’t know what they are doing to your food.”

Many of the controversial posts were deleted after being highlighted by rivals, but have been seen and reported on by the Birmingham Mail.

Controversial Facebook posts of West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner candidate Andy Flynn

Labour candidate David Jamieson, a former Government minister, said: “Flynn’s views are revolting. In more than 45 years of public life I can’t recall ever seeing such hateful things written by a candidate standing for election.”

Mr Flynn has paid the £5,000 deposit to secure the nomination. In a field of just four candidates, he could secure the five per cent vote needed to get his money back.

Flynn told the Birmingham Mail, “Posts on my Facebook page are for my friends and family, and are therefore personal and not part of my election campaign.

“I have not made any comments about Muslim food, In fact, I often enjoy Asian food. My views on Marxism are not relevant to my standing for election. However, I do believe that Marxism and what it represents are a danger to our freedoms.”

What should we make of that poll? ‘What Muslims Really Think’

A poll of British Muslims for a forthcoming television documentary suggests they are more anti-Semitic than the general population. The poll also indicates that they differ from the wider community on numerous social issues.

Trevor Phillips, the host of the forthcoming television programme.

The programme, which will air on Wednesday on Channel 4, is called “What British Muslims Really Think.”

While 6 percent of the British population in a parallel poll believed Jews are “responsible for most wars,” more than 25 percent of Muslim respondents for the television poll held that view. In addition, nearly 40 percent of the Muslims polled said Jews had “too much control over global affairs,” a view shared by just 10 percent of the overall British population.

The poll of Muslims also found that more than one-third believe Jews talk too much about the Holocaust, 30 percent believe Jews “think they are better than other people” and 40 percent believe Jews are “more loyal to Israel than to the UK.”

Some British Muslim leaders are questioning the accuracy of the poll, with one scholar saying it interviewed Muslims only in areas where they are 20 percent or more of the population and thus less likely to be integrated into and with British culture.

Writing in The Guardian, a leader of the Muslim Council of Britain called the poll “skewed” and “divisive.”

The poll further indicated British Muslims believe Jews wield too much power: 40 percent said Jews have too much power over financial markets and 39 percent said the same about the media.

“It is sad that ancient stereotypes still play out in society at large and in particular within parts of the Muslim community,” Jewish Leadership Council leader Simon Johnson said, according to the Jewish News. “This report shows a clear need for further education.”

While their views differed from their non-Muslim countrymen, the Muslims polled expressed positive feelings about the United Kingdom, with 88 percent saying Britain was a good place for Muslims and 86 percent saying they feel a strong sense of belonging in the country.

The poll was conducted in person in the spring of 2015 with a representative sample of 1,000 Muslims across the country. For comparison, the pollsters also interviewed by phone a representative sample of 1,008 British people.

Yorkshire Islamic school caught promoting anti-Semitic conspiracies

A private Muslim school in Yorkshire has been exposed for teaching an extreme form of Islam, promoting classic anti-Semitic conspiracies that Jews are engaged in a global conspiracy to take over the world and that adopting British customs is forbidden.

Madrassa-657212The Islamic Tarbiyah Academy in Dewsbury teaches 140 primary school children in an after-school madrasa and runs full-time classes for over-16s and adults.

Mufti Zubair Dudha, the centre’s founder and head, is a respected cleric from the orthodox Deobandi sect which is thought to control half of all mosques and madrasas in the UK.

In one leaflet Mr Dudha quotes the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, an early 20th Century anti-Semitic forgery, which claims to prove Jewish people are engaged in a global conspiracy.

He claims that colourful pictures, films, magazines and sporting celebrities are part of the conspiracy to “poison the thinking and minds” of young Muslim people.The-Islamic-Tarbiyah-Academy-502276

“The various forms of distractions have been successful to considerable extent in achieving their objectives,” he wrote.

Other leaflets and newsletters, some of which are distributed to Deobandi mosques, say all mixed-sex institutions are evil, warn Muslims not to adopt British customs, ban the watching of TV, and tell women not to go out to work and to be fully covered before leaving the house.

In a section on jihad he tells Muslims they should be prepared to “expend … even life” to create a world organised “according to Allah’s just order”.

The school website says its aim is to “create a sense of discipline, based upon an enlightened comprehension of moral and ethical values, as is the crying need of the hour all over the world.”

The Dewsbury area has a recent history of disaffected youth becoming radicalised, being home to Britain’s youngest suicide bomber, its youngest convicted terrorist, and one of the 7/7 bombers.

Keith Vaz, who chairs the Home Affairs Select Committee, told Sky News he believes the centre’s teachings are dangerous.

“After what we have seen in Paris and in Brussels and the way in which the Muslim community has come out so strongly in favour of peace and tolerance, I think these kinds of leaflets serve no purpose but to divide in a poisonous and totally reckless way,” he said.

The Department of Education confirmed it is investigating what it described as “serious allegations”.

A spokesman said: “While it would be inappropriate to comment on the specific investigations of these institutions, we are clear that extremism has no place in our society and we are determined to protect children from it.”

The school said it was “astonished” by the allegations, adding its focus is on spiritual activities, and “political activities are not of primary concern.”

A statement said: “Rather than promoting extreme views, the Islamic Tarbiyah Academy has, and will, continue to work within the community, along with others, including the local authorities, to try and counter extremism. Any suggestions to the contrary are unfounded to say the least.”

Leaked memo examines French police officers who refused to protect synagogues

A leaked confidential memo from the French Department of Public Security, published by Le Parisien, details 17 cases of police officers radicalized between 2012 and 2015. Particularly noted were the police officers who listened to and broadcast Muslim chants while on patrol.

Some of these police officers openly refused to protect synagogues or to observe a minute of silence to commemorate the deaths of victims of terrorist attacks.images-2

…the police were alerted to a policewoman who incited terrorism on Facebook, and called her police uniform a “filthy rag of the Republic” while wiping her hands on it.

In January 2015, immediately after the attacks on Charlie Hebdo and the Hypercacher kosher supermarket in Vincennes, which had left 17 people dead, she wrote on her Facebook page: “Masked attack led by Zionist cowards… They need to be killed.”

Some have suggested this raises the prospect of a Muslim police terror attack in France.

Turkish Newspaper: Darwin was a Jew and monkeys evolved from Jews!

A column in the radical Islamist Turkish daily Vahdet claimed that the evolutionary theory of “the Jew” Darwin contradicts Allah’s word in the Koran and that in actual fact, monkeys evolved from perverted Jews whom Allah cursed and punished, MEMRI reported.

The article, written by Seyfi Sahin, a journalist who supports the ruling Islamist AKP party and claims to be a physician, argues that Jews “terrorize the world of science” and, as a Jew, Darwin concocted his theory of evolution in order to turn Muslims away from their religion.

“The aim of [Darwin’s] theory is to turn the non-Jews away from their religion, to harm their faith, and to make them suspicious about their religion. Darwin, being a Jew, believed, lived, and was buried according to his religion. His real targets were the Muslims,” writes Sahin.

Sahin explains that the chromosomal anomalies between monkeys and humans prove “that humans are not derived from monkeys, but that monkeys come from humans. There are many factors in the creation of such anomalies, among them divine, environmental, and chemical.”

Sahin quotes four Koranic passages as evidence that monkeys are derived from Jews, including the verse “Whomever Allah has cursed and punished, and those he turned into monkeys, pigs, and Satan worshipers, occupy the worst place [in his eyes], and they are perverts that have deviated from their path.”

He asserts that Jewish control over the “world’s financial and scientific institutions is so powerful that they terrorize the world of science” and have successfully brainwashed even experts into believing Darwin’s “deception as scientific reality.”

“I believe that the gorillas and chimps living today in the forests of North Africa are cursed Jews. They are perverted humans that have mutated,” Sahin contends.

He adds that since Muslims do not have the same control over the media, banks, and scientific institutions as Jews do, they have not been able to “scream this truth.”

“But we have our intellect, we have our faith, and we have our Allah. Alhamdullillah [with the grace of Allah],” Sahin concludes.

Dutch government report: Jew hatred a ‘recurrent problem’ in schools

In the country with a long Jewish tradition and the world-wide learning generated by Anne Frank’s diary, anti-Semitism is sadly a persistent problem in some Dutch schools and especially among Muslim pupils.

This is according to a new government-commissioned report on discrimination in education, titled “Two Worlds, Two Realities – How Do You Deal with It as a Teacher.” It was published last week by Margalith Kleijwegt, a Dutch-Jewish journalist, at the request of the Dutch ministry of education.

The report, which is based on visits to schools and conversations with dozens of teachers since January 2015, says that teachers sometimes feel powerless to change the deep-seated biases and violent attitudes of some pupils, including on Jews.

One female teacher from Amsterdam of high school pupils following a vocational education program told Kleijwegt of a lesson about democratic values and against discrimination, in which a female pupil of Moroccan descent stood up and said: “If I had a Kalashnikov [assault rifle], I’d gun down all the Jews.” She then made shooting gestures and sounds.

Shocked, the teacher tried to make the pupil empathize with a Jew but felt she was not getting through to her.

“I wasn’t getting there”, the report quotes the teacher as saying. “I asked her to imagine a 5-year-old Jewish girl who lives here. What would she have to do with Israel’s policies? Unfortunately, there was no place for empathy. The pupil didn’t care about that girl. She had only one message: The Jews should die.”

“Anti-Semitic behavior is a recurrent problem in some schools,” Kleijwegt wrote. “Some see it as a provocation [by pupils], others fear it goes deeper: That pupils receive anti-Jewish attitudes at home. The same applies to the growing group of Dutch pupils who say foreigners should rot and die. Is this provocation? Do they receive it at home?”

2016-02-08-19-17-17--1265389371In the report, Dutch Education Minister Jet Bussemaker wrote that the document “shows a reality that is inconvenient and sometimes painful” but must be confronted and dealt with “in accordance to democratic values.”

Historic levels of immigration to Israel, fueled by European anti-Semitism?

Jews in Europe feel as threatened now in Europe as they did during World War II and the Holocaust, experts have said.

An exodus of western European Jews have flocked to Israel after rising anti-Semitic attacks reached an all-time high.

Almost 10,000 Jews from West Europe immigrated to Israel in 2015, the highest annual number ever.

Nearly 80 per cent of the migrants are from France, where attacks have left the world’s third-largest Jewish population rattled.

While Jews have been targeted in Belgium, Denmark and other European countries, France has has been the most dangerous for Jewish people.

Just this week, a machete-wielding teen attacked a Jewish teacher in the French town of Marseille, prompting a local Jewish authority to ask fellow Jews to refrain from wearing their traditional skull caps to stay safe.

There are increasing reports of assaults and intimidation against Jews by mostly from Muslim extremists.

France is still recovering from a series of attacks in Paris on Nov. 13 that killed 130 people and mourned the anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo attacks, the same day a kosher grocery store was attacked, leaving 17 people dead.

In each case, the Islamic State group claimed responsibility.

France’s Jewish community of 500,000 people is the largest in Europe.

Jewish schools and synagogues are often surrounded by soldiers in combat fatigues who patrol the streets with automatic rifle.

Though Jews make up less than 1 percent of the population, French officials say more than 50 percent of all reported racist attacks in 2014 were directed against them.

While some attacks have been linked to anger at Israeli policies toward the Palestinians, most have been anti-Semitic in nature.

Close to 800 Jews have have left Britain for Israel and Italy and Belgium follow next on the list.

‘That a record number of European Jews feel that Europe is no longer their home should alarm European leaders and serve as a wake-up call for all who are concerned about the future of Europe,’ said Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky.

‘At the same time, the fact that Israel has become the number one destination for European Jews seeking to build a better future elsewhere is a tribute to the appeal of life in Israel and the values the Jewish state represents,’ Sharansky added.
